METHODOLOGY
Living in New Mexico for many years solidified my passion for painting outdoors or “plein air.” Lines, rhythm and balance are present in nature and in the human form. I prefer to work “from life.” To me, that means drawing figures and portraits with a model and painting landscapes outside in nature to experience it first hand. Sunlight and shadows shift. Models change poses. “From life” gives you a time limit and it keeps your efforts fresh and spontaneous.
There is a connective thread through my art which is to study my subject, paint with those I admire, be inspired by vast or simple things and to continually practice. Return to what you love again and again. I have been fortunate to paint in France, Italy, the Pacific Northwest, the wide-open spaces of New Mexico and the mountains of Colorado. Still I am always happy to paint my favorite tree in a park near my home in Kentucky.
Thank you for getting to know my work.
